BIG The Musical, based on the hit film, is currently showing at the London's Dominion Theatre in the West End. The Theatre has recently gone under some refurbishment, and does look very smart. It included a new Stage, and welcomed BIG back in September 2019 for a limited run.
Last night (7th October) we took our seats for the evening's performance of BIG The Musical in London's Dominion Theatre, not really knowing much about the film, or the Show, having heard some of the music on Apple Music, and not really being keen on it, I was delighted to say how fantastic the performance actually was.
Do I have any criticism? Occasional, the sound was a bit off so you missed some dialogue, but from reading reviews, Dominion Theatre is known for its acoustics.
The Enthusiasm from the cast, from the leads, to the ensemble members, they were just out of this world... To see them smiling and dancing away, really showing they were really into it and loved their jobs!
Now, being a bit of a fan of The Wanted, (oh yes, they do turn up on my radio show ever now and then...) It was a delight to see Jay McGuiness perform on stage, with his strong vocals and incredible dancing (must of been from the time he was on strictly come dancing) his acting, playing a big kid, really was a stand out performance, you really felt at times, your heart break for his character, but also a slight hint of jealousy, from most of the young audience, as he does get to work in a Toy Shop! What big KID wouldn't want to work in a toy store!! Oh and the massive interactive Piano! Now that made me smile... I want a go! You've got to see it to believe it!!
Wendi Peters, who is I believe in this years, Panto in Bath, was incredible, her stunning solo performances giving you goosebumps, whilst she really wants answers to what happens to her son, and why this grown man, who is her son, is in her house... She think's she's been burgled...
Matthew Kelly, was a delight to see on stage, in this performance, for me, not the strongest of vocal performances, but as the Toy Shop owner, really took charge and was cast correctly for the role. His energy and enthusiasm on stage including dancing, was amazing.
Now, the last time I saw Kimberly Walsh, was when she starred in, yes, you wouldn't believe it, SHREK in the West End now its been a long time since I've seen her, but I've really missed her vocals, her voice is just beautiful, and the harmony, on stage amongst the cast, was incredible
Oh and a special shout out to the MD (Musical Director) who conducted the evenings performance Jeremy, if you're sat front row, you'd of loved watching him conduct the performance, I spent 50/50 watching Jeremy and the cast on stage, Jeremy, who was the MD was really getting into the conducting side of it, and his level of enthusiasm really got into the band, and the band was playing with their hearts... it was lovely to see that you could see the conductor, in the Orchestra pit, and glance over at the pit, and see some of the performers play.
Overall, a very enjoyable evening!
I really love BIG The Musical, I really hope it comes back to London's West End in the future, or Tour as its limited run at the Dominion should be longer! The audience loved it, I loved it, I think you'll love it!
OVERALL the show gets 5 Star review from me!
