REVIEW
So, this is our new blog page for Theatre Reviews, previously we did these via our social media pages, however we are delighted to share this on our website under the new blog post.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So Mum and I visited London for the weekend, we saw something on the Saturday night, and was looking for something to watch on the Sunday night; Now I've seen this show advertised in London and on various websites for a couple of months and always thought "One Day I'll get around to seeing it". And yes, I did on Sunday get around to seeing it...
We arrived about 6.50pm, slightly delayed as trying to get a taxi in London seems impossible from our hotel, but we arrived and there was still quite a queue. A young lad checking bags on your way in but not seeming to point you in the right direction of where you are supposed to be going, only to see another member of staff within seconds of the first one... Note to Theatre here, If you are going to point people in the direction of the right way, then make sure the staff speak up, and get security checking bags on arrival, as she was stood not doing much and therefore would make females feel better instead of a male checking bags... However I didn't bring a bag so I was ok.
On observation, the theatre staff seemed very unorganised when it comes to the Box Office or already having tickets, however we had to speak to the box office to redeem our vouchers for a glass of bubbly during the interval. So, as instructed spoke to the bar person, who instead of taking names gave you a number, a very good idea therefore you wouldn't have any confusing spellings or duplicate names so that could cause some problems.
The auditorium itself is actually quite a reasonable size in the stalls, and we were sat in Row B 14/15 a few disgruntled audience members who had to move so we could get past to get to our seats. Fortunately no sharp exits from me due to my annoying cough at the moment.
First impressions of the set was, oh this is very basic, but looks as if it will be well used throughout the production if you've not seen the production, there is something very spectacular in the second half which will blow your mind, it certainly did my mothers, who is still working out how its done...
The performance begun, and was surprised to see that they didn't use mics, but the majority of them did have very good voices and spoke loudly with lines, the only thing had mics for songs, and bits that took back of the stage, however this was cleverly switched between so that you didn't really notice it. I would however preferred it if they did have mics, as in row B I was distracted by 4 young people talking loudly throughout, with the mother not doing anything but to encourage it. (back to that in a bit)...
The performance is filled with some outstanding performances throughout the production, with Liam Jeavons and Julia Frith performance being outstanding and the comedy timing being incredible...
George Hannigan performance is by far the funniest and stand out of the night. it is outstanding and he really deserves an award for his performance; as he has you in stitches in so many different scenes throughout the performance.
The show story is strong throughout; albeit towards the end quite violent, but you find yourself laughing at the bits you shouldn't... simply because the surprises of the storyline you don't expect it to happen... And yes, before anyone says it who has seen the show! I Jumped several times....
Now, completely honest when It started, I did feel at the start like it was a group of "drama school teachers" putting on a show, however this extremely hilarious and brilliant production in the West End... is not to be missed and it is just fantastic! However, I think they could cut the interval down from 20 to 15 minutes as it isn't needed.
Righty, back to the 4 in front row that were very distracting...
There was a big sign on the stage that says, "Do not place items on the stage". which is fair enough. however this sign should also read "feet should not be stretched out and resting onstage" as this was highly irritating and distracting from the performance as you'd see fee appear out the corner of your eye from front row. Hugely disappoint and disrespectful to the performers in question; I was expecting a member of staff in the first half to ask them to stop and keep them down, but they didn't so it was a shame, however someone from the theatre in the second half told them to put them down, which is fantastic! Shame it took away from the performance... Theatre is there to be enjoyed, and theatre etiquette obviously they did not know of!!
end of review
Show: 5 Star for Comedy About A Bank Robbery; Overall incredible comedy timing and writing team who wrote the story
Theatre: 3 Stars: Unorganised and it simply felt that no one knew where they were supposed to be going, or doing what... and was disappointed they didn't tell the front row to remove feet until second half.
THIS HILARIOUS SHOW, RUNS IN THE WEST END UNTIL MAY 2020!
